Construction Water

Treatment of construction water from surface works is relatively straight forward and generally only requires a high degree of solids management, however for tunnelling projects, it is inevitable that infiltrated ground water will bring with it a vide variety of contaminants requiring a much higher level of treatment.

Hydroflux  is based in most capital cities providing you with a local presence throughout the duration of the project.

Engaging Hydroflux to construct your water treatment plant means that you will have access to a skilled team experienced in water treatment for infrastructure projects. Our team includes process, mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineers plus a team of qualified and experienced project managers, site supervisors, commissioning engineers and service technicians.

Treatment of water from construction site will usually comprise one or more of the following processes:

  • Screening
  • Gross and enhanced clarification,
  • Multimedia or green sand filtration
  • Carbon filtration

  • Ion exchange
  • Ultrafiltration
  • Reverse Osmosis
  • Disinfection

Clarification

Hydroflux has a range of designs to efficiently handle the high volumes of solids produced during excavation and TBM operation. These systems can be located within the tunnel for gross solids removal or incorporated into the main water treatment plant at the surface. Removal of solids from tunneling operations is typically a staged process using “fish tanks”, large conical based vessels and compact lamella separators.

Once gross solids are removed from the water stream, the pH will require adjustment and flocculants are dosed to enhance the separation of the finer material. Once the solids have been flocculated, a robust, compact and modular Hydroflux lamella separator is typically used to separate the solids from the water phase.

Hydroflux will determine the most suitable chemical program to ensure that the water treatment plant operates as expected

Solids Handling

Hydroflux has a range of designs to efficiently handle the high volumes of solids produced during excavation and TBM operation. These systems can be located within the tunnel for gross solids removal or incorporated into the main water treatment plant at the surface.

Removal of solids from tunneling operations is typically a staged process using “fish tanks”, large conical based vessels and compact lamella separators. The TunnelMAX system is a unique Hydroflux product that dewaters solids inside the tunnel as a pre-treatment stage to reduce the load on the surface water treatment plant.

Chemicals

Various chemicals are required for water treatment plants on construction sites including acid, coagulants, flocculants and various chemicals for the downstream polishing stages when required. Hydroflux not only designs suitable chemical storage and dosing facilities but can also offer its own range of proprietary chemicals specially formulated to treat water from construction sites. Water polishing for reuse and high-quality discharge

The legislation for discharge water form construction site is becoming far more stringent with the EPA requiring extremely low levels of metals, hydrocarbons and emerging contaminants. As the typical discharge requirements generally exceed the water quality required for recycling, reuse of water within the tunneling operation or its use for irrigating or supply surrounding areas is a beneficial and sustainable option.

Hydroflux has vast experience in the design and construction of advanced water treatment processes and polishing of water from construction sites to enable high quality discharge or reuse will usually incorporate one or more stages of treatment from our range.

Operation and support

The provision of various levels of support is critical to the ongoing successful operation of construction water treatment plants.

Hydroflux has a team of service technicians and engineers in most capital cities who can provide  on site  and remote  technical support, regular service and maintenance and offer 24/7 emergency call outs.

Various chemicals are required for water treatment plants on construction sites including acid, coagulants, flocculant and various chemicals for the downstream polishing stages when required.
