HyDAF Installation at WAMMCO, Western Australia

A leading Western Australian lamb producer, renowned for supplying some of the world’s finest lamb, faced challenges with their Covered Anaerobic Lagoons (CALs). Heavy solids and non-biodegradable material were building up within the lagoons, reducing efficiency and causing blockages. The client required a solution to reduce solids loading to the CALs, prevent build-up of inert material, and recover renderable by-products for further processing.

Hydroflux Industrial supplied a HyDAF HD100V Dissolved Air Flotation system, specifically designed for applications in the meat industry with high levels of grit, dense solids, and fast-settling particles. Key features of the solution included:

  • V-bottom design to effectively capture and remove heavy solids that don’t float
  • Fabrication in Australia to suit site-specific conditions
  • Dissolved air units matched to the solids loading for optimum energy efficiency
  • A robust system that does not require chemical dosing

The HD100V replaced older Save-All and legacy DAF systems, providing a modern, low-maintenance solution tailored for meat processing wastewater. Hydroflux worked with the client to ensure integration with rendering operations and lagoon systems, maximising recovery of valuable by-products while protecting the anaerobic process.

The Results

The installation delivered immediate improvements, including:

  • 64% removal of suspended solids (TSS)
  • Reduction of fats, oils, and grease (FOG) to below 200 mg/L
  • Increased recovery of feed material for rendering
  • Diversion of heavy grit away from anaerobic lagoons, preventing blockages and extending lagoon life

Industry Innovation

The HyDAF HD100V demonstrates Hydroflux’s capability to solve complex wastewater challenges in the meat industry, delivering both compliance and process efficiency while enhancing resource recovery.
