Custom Solution Allows Tabubil STP to Secure its Environmental Discharge

July 6, 2023

The Tabubil STP owned and operated by Ok Tedi Mining in Papua New Guinea was recently upgraded to include new technology and automation.

Operational since the 1980’s, the existing treatment process is an activated sludge system that has the ability to treat up to 1.8 million L per day of wastewater.

Hydroflux Epco were contracted to upgrade the treatment plant to enable it to meet its new environmental discharge requirements, reduce maintenance and to provide a biosolids management system.

“We provided a new inlet works using inclined spiral screen technology in a bespoke intake structure fabricated from stainless steel. The structure included inlet distribution, duty/ standby screens and a bypass chamber with mechanically raked screen.

The existing secondary clarifiers required an overhaul but most importantly we have provided a HySludge® mechanical sludge dewatering solution that automatically draws sludge from the process, digests it with the final cake being reused onsite. Since the upgrade the treatment plant has met all of its environmental discharge targets” says Paul Cobbin, CEO of Hydroflux Pacific.
